Getting to Dahlonega
65 miles from Atlanta — a scenic mountain drive that's half the fun.
From Atlanta
The most common route: Take GA-400 North from I-285 (the perimeter). After Cumming and the North Georgia Premium Outlets, the highway narrows into two lanes and begins climbing into the mountains. You'll pass through Dawsonville before reaching Dahlonega — a drive that gets noticeably prettier the further north you go.
- → GA-400 N from Atlanta · ~1 hr 20 min without traffic
- → Atlanta traffic adds 30–60 min on Friday afternoons
- → The stretch above Dawsonville is scenic and winding — enjoy it
- → Dahlonega is the last town before roads get really mountainous
Parking in Dahlonega
Parking is free in most of Dahlonega — the town has a large free lot just off the square. On fall weekends and during Gold Rush Days (October), it fills early. Arrive before 10am or walk from a parking area on the edge of town.
